Well you read here about the day that I received an email from Lori at the Nate Berkus Show saying that they discovered my blog and wanted to talk with me about my home. Once I called her back she asked me a series of questions about what Chris and I were doing with our home, when we purchased our home, approximately how far we have gotten etc. We also had a few laughs about the interesting things the prior owners left us like the baby door and the green room. During that call she asked if Chris and I would be free to come to New York on Feb. 15th, ABSOLUTELY we were. She said she'd be in touch. After that weekend and that day came and went I figured that they must have realized that they made a mistake and I wasn't interesting after all.
On Feb. 18th while dress shopping with my mother and oldest sister I received another call from another producer asking me another round of questions. They said later that day I'd receive another call but since my reception was spotty I gave them my mother's cell phone number just in case they couldn't get through to me. They also let me know that they didn't in fact need us for the segment that they initially called for, but they think that I have a great personality and love to talk and that is what they like and want for their show. They asked that I send photos of the rooms in my home and Chris and I jumped to it! Still not knowing what they wanted me for had me full of anticipation. I mean, I know that Nate Berkus is a home designer and it would more than likely have something to do with my home but I had no earthly idea. But I'm not complaining! We've been renovating for quite a while and I am completely open to ideas especially from a professional designer! A couple more days went by and I received yet another call from Janelle a producer from the show. She asked more questions about me, what my hobbies are, what inspires me etc. What's funny is that I felt like I was applying for a job! It took everything in me to not stutter and struggle with my answers. Not knowing what the show wanted me for I didn't want to screw anything up; and she assured me that I had the 'job' and to not be nervous.
The Final call came the evening of Feb. 19th, they asked me if I would be free on Feb. 23, ABSOLUTELY! Unfortunately Chris had to be in Cali on business that week so he wouldn't be there. He's so sweet though, he was willing to cancel his trip if I felt that I needed him there. They let me know that once I hear from Marianne to go over travel arrangements, that would solidify my being on the show. I heard from Marianne about 20 minutes later and began to jump for joy! It was in stone! Marianne let me know that they would fly me out on Tuesday the 22nd, a driver would be there at LaGuardia to meet me in baggage claim and then take me to my hotel. I was so excited that I practically forgot everything she said, thank goodness she sent me the itinerary. The one thing that I did remember was to wear a bright colored solid top, no patterns, no white, black or beige. I called my family to let them know that I was definitely going to be on the show and then I spent the next day hanging out with my middle sister to figure out what I was going to wear. You know I'm not a shopper, so this was a quick process, well the shopping was quick. I just purchased a new pair of jeans and decided to wear a top that I already owned, done and done! We spent the rest of the evening having dinner and giggling uncontrollably. That was exactly what I needed to calm my nerves, what's next? The flight.
